About
See that dapper young gentleman over there? That’s me, Remi André, a Web developer currently residing in Spokane, Washington. I am what some call a “standards based Web developer,” which really just means I develop Web sites with a strong belief in adhering to Web standards. In other words, using XHTML/HTML and CSS takes up a rather large chunk of my day, and I have also recently started dabbling more with soon-to-be-standards (probably) like HTML 5.
At the same level as the front-end designing, I also do back-end coding, using technologies like PHP or C#.
A bit about this Web site
This Web site was built using Wordpress. The theme, called Digital Rain, was fully designed and coded by me, as were the various plug-ins used throughout the site.
The site’s content is largely centered around Web development and design (Web and otherwise), but also pretty much anything else I can think of.
As this is a personal site, I have elected to not test it on every ancient browser (hello, IE6) out there. It works fine in current versions of Firefox, Safari, and Chrome, and I believe that should cover the (narrow) target group for this blog.
A bit about myself
While I have been living in the US since 1998, I spent the first 21 years of my life just outside Oslo, Norway, where I was born and raised.
I like to travel, be it short day trips, or exploring different countries and cultures. I enjoy music, and I am a big fan of movies, particularly classic Hitchcock and Italian cinema. As a fancier of fine food, I run a Spokane-based restaurant database called Only Eat Here during my spare time.
I currently reside just outside of downtown Spokane, where I live with my girlfriend.
Elsewhere
You can find more of my work and more about me all over the Web:
- Only Eat Here and Spokane Food Blog: A restaurant guide and a food blog, both designed by me. The former was developed from scratch using PHP, the latter is a Wordpress blog running widgets and plug-ins developed by me.
- “Podcast this!” A Spokesman-Review story centered around a video podcast, Remi and Stefan Do Spokane, I used to co-run.
- “Web sites show his geek chic sensibilities:” A Spokesman-Review special I wrote about my “current Web favorites.”
- In March, 2009 I was named the third “best blogger” in Spokane by The Inlander.
